The new Wonder Woman bears an interesting connection to David Corenswet's Superman that shows how James Gunn's DC Universe is distancing itself from the old DCEU. Gal Gadot was one of the stars who appeared the most among all DCEU movies. The reason for that is the actress got the chance to lead two Wonder Woman movies, played a key role in Justice League, and appeared in cameo or supporting roles in multiple other DCEU films. Despite her popularity, Wonder Woman 3 was canceled after the second movie in the franchise bombed.
The role will now be recast for the upcoming DCU movies, with Gadot leaving Wonder Woman behind, just like how the DCU let Henry Cavill go and hired David Corenswet to play its younger version of Superman. Wonder Woman and the Man of Steel have always been connected in the comics, and the DCU has already shown through a shared element of the new versions of the characters that the franchise is hoping to do something different with the heroes in comparison to the DCEU.
Wonder Woman Has Debuted In The DC Universe Alongside Superman
The Two Heroes Appeared In An Unexpected Way
While an actress has yet to be cast as the new Diana Prince, Wonder Woman has already appeared in a Creature Commandos trailer. David Corenswet's Superman also debuted in the DCU similarly through a prior trailer for the shared universe's first project. Wonder Woman and Superman appear in a mysterious sequence in Creature Commandos. The Wonder Woman villain Circe shows Amanda Waller a vision of a possible future. In it, Superman, Wonder Woman, and other heroes and anti-heroes, like Supergirl, Booster Gold, and John Cena's Peacemaker, are dead.
Batman and other heroes could be shown in the full version of the nightmare-like sequence, as many characters' shadows can be seen in the background, and DC did release a snippet of the scene with Corenswet's Superman before the new trailer included Wonder Woman and more characters. Fans will not have to wait long to see the full sequence with what appears to be the DCU's Justice League, as Circe's vision was shown in the trailer for Creature Commandos' episode 4, which will be released on Thursday, December 19.
Wonder Woman & Superman Share An Exciting Costume Detail In The DCU
The New DC Universe Makes Changes To The Heroes
Besides the fact that Wonder Woman and Superman have made their DCU debuts together, they also share a key connection through their costumes. Both Wonder Woman and Corenswet's Superman wear their classic DC Comics costumes in the new DCU. The Man of Steel has his iconic red trunks, different from Henry Cavill's Superman, while the DCU's Wonder Woman wears her classic swimsuit, while Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman had an armored skirt as part of her look. This is an easy way to make the DCU and the DCEU visually and tonally distinct from the get-go through Wonder Woman and Superman.
