SWAT Ending With Season 7 Gets Heartfelt Response From Shemar Moore

By Anthony Moore 10/07/2025

In an interview with TV Insider, Moore gave a status update on SWAT season 7 and hinted at what's to come in the final episodes. In the quote below, the Criminal Minds alum also candidly looked back on what the CBS action drama has accomplished and what makes it stand out. Moore's quote is below:

We are prepared for it to be the final season, and you’ll see that in these 13 episodes.I’m very appreciative and proud of what the writing staff and producers have come up with to kind of put the button on the characters and the show. You’re getting a little bit of everything. Hondo may be the leader, and me, Shemar may be the lead of the show, but it ain’t all about me. It takes a village, and I love that every character is going to get their moments to shine in these final episodes.

We’re very proud of what we’ve accomplished. We’ve taken a show, and obviously I’m biased, but there’s no such thing as the best show. But I think as far as network, we’re a very unique show. We’re almost like watching an action movie, but on TV. Our signature is the action, but we got a lot of heart. There’s a lot of grit. Oftentimes, there’s nice moving messages to the stories, and I’m just proud to be a leader, to be the leader of the team on this show.

In the final season's debut episode, "The Promise" — which is written by Kent Rotherham and directed by Billy Gierhart — Hondo, Hicks (Patrick St. Esprit), and Zoe Powell (Anna Enger Ritch) travel to Mexico City. Their goal is to find a fugitive that Hondo lost a decade ago. But as is sometimes the case with SWAT, things don't go according to plan and Hondo becomes increasingly desperate to fulfill his long-held promise to find the killer who is now on the run.

Powell won't just be a recurring presence in SWAT season 7. The actor, who has recurred since season 6, has been upped to the main cast for the final season. Ritch has made 17 appearances in SWAT overall, with Powell first appearing in the season 5 episode "City Foul." She's first seen alongside S.W.A.T. recruits during a training session. But it's unknown if a key fan-favorite will be back for the farewell run.
