If you pay any attention at all to the intersection of fashion and celebrity, then Salma Hayek’s latest outfit probably comes as no surprise. The Like Water for Chocolate producer is now the latest A-lister to give the boho-chic renaissance her stamp of approval.
On Wednesday, Hayek shared a new video of herself, posing against a brick balcony, to Instagram. The clip captured her outfit: the perfect autumnal take on the resurgent boho trend.
The centerpiece of Hayek’s look was a flowy dress made out of sheer fabric awash in a vibrant, rusty copper color. The maxi dress included whimsical details like billowing bishop sleeves, a ruffled collar, and a ruched tiered skirt. The actor continued the boho theme with her accessories, adding on a wide leather belt with a chunky coffee-colored buckle, a bulky necklace strung together with coral-red beads, a long gold chain necklace with an attached crystal pendant, and a massive gold arm cuff worn atop one sleeve.
Hayek joins a cadre of other celebrity supporters of the boho revival, which most recently includes the likes of Amal Clooney, Jennifer Lopez, and Emma Stone.
Stylist Rachel Zoe recently reflected on the trend’s return and how it’s evolved in an interview for Harper’s Bazaar. “I think it’s a spirit. I think it’s an overall way that a woman carries herself. I think it’s beyond the clothes. I think the clothes and the jewelry and the sunglasses and the bag and all of that, that’s all just this sort of costume for the person,” she said. “When I was styling Nicole [Richie] and styling Lindsay [Lohan] and styling Mischa [Barton], at the same time, I was styling Keira [Knightley], Salma Hayek Pinault, Jennifer Garner, and Eva Mendes, and some of these women were not that. At the time, I was very careful not to put anyone in boho if it wasn’t them. It’s about what feels most authentic to the person you’re dressing. The question was always, like, ‘Are you an Audrey Hepburn or a Brigitte Bardot?’ and for me personally, it’s always Brigitte Bardot.”
