By Mohamed Nina Dobrev enjoyed fun in the sun with Zac Efron and friends one week after her breakup with Shaun White.
On Thursday, September 18, the Daily Mail published pictures of the former Vampire Diaries star, 36, and Efron, 37, hanging out just off the Italian coastline. Dobrev looked chic in a plunging cutout swimsuit, while a bleached-blond Efron donned black swim trunks, as both took turns dipping into the sea.
The pair were joined by several famous friends, including Miles Teller and his wife, Keleigh Teller, as well as Chace Crawford and his girlfriend, Kelsey Merritt. Keleigh previously revealed that she was on vacation with Dobrev by sharing photos of their friend group on Thursday.
Dobrev and Efron have some previous history, as she guest starred on the High School Musical actor’s fitness-based YouTube series in April 2019. The pair chatted about Dobrev’s background as a gymnast, before one cute moment where Efron mistakenly complimented his guest on her pearl bracelet.
“Are those diamonds?” Efron asked as he pointed to her bracelet, with Dobrev correcting him with a chuckle: “Those are pearls, not diamonds! But, you know …”
Dobrev started dating White only a few months after the release of her 2019 fitness video with Efron. However, news broke on September 11 that Dobrev and White called off their engagement after five years together. (The former couple got engaged in October 2024 when White proposed with a 5-carat ring by designer Lorraine Schwartz at The Golden Swan in New York City.)
Sources revealed exclusively to Us Weekly that there was no cheating involved and that there was no truth to rumors that Dobrev and White disagreed over starting a family.
However, an insider confirmed that Dobrev was understandably “devastated” over the abrupt end to her engagement.
“They had finally started planning the wedding and things were in motion,” the source revealed, adding that the breakup was “still very fresh.”
The insider added, “[Nina is being] supported by her closest girlfriends, who have been checking in on her.”
Prior to jetting off with her friends, Dobrev shared a photo showing her snuggling with two children. People previously reported that Dobrev spent some time with family in Canada in the immediate aftermath of her split from White.
White, 39, has kept busy since the breakup as well, first heading to Beijing, China, to promote his winter sports tour, The Snow League, ahead of a three-day event at Yunding Snow Park in December. It was also a chance for White to reminisce about competing in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, as he shared with fans via Instagram that he was feeling “a bit nostalgic” about being back in China.
White next appeared on NBC’s Today on Tuesday, September 16, and while he did not discuss his split from Dobrev, he expressed excitement to attend the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, as a spectator. (White retired from active competition following the Beijing Olympics.)
“I’ll be running around, definitely supporting my friends competing and just taking it in,” he said on Today. “This will be my first Winter Olympics where I’m not competing, so a lot of feelings there, but honestly, I’m excited to support and check it out.”
