NBA’s Kevin Durant Channels His Inner Travis Kelce, Shoots His Shot With Host Kay Adams

Kevin Durant is a shooter — on and off the court.

On the Tuesday, September 30, episode of “Up & Adams,” the NBA star and new Houston Rockets forward invited host Kay Adams to a game in Houston this season, adding on a post-game invitation to a Texas barbeque.

“You should come down to Houston, which I’m expecting you to come to a game,” Durant told Adams during the interview.

Adams shuts it down – tastefully, of course – saying she was at a game last season and Durant “would not even wave.”

Durant claimed he was injured during that game and didn’t know she was even in attendance until watching the next episode of her podcast.

“It’s all good,” Durant continued. “We’re moving on to this next season, and I’ll see you at one of these games in Houston and we’re going to a barbeque down in Texas when we get out here.”

Durant is a 17-year NBA veteran and 15-time All-Star. He’s won the NBA championship twice in his career, both with the Golden State Warriors.

He spent the majority of his career with the Oklahoma City Thunder (formerly the Seattle Supersonics) and signed with the Warriors in 2016. He also played for the Phoenix Suns and Brooklyn Nets and will suit up for the Rockets for the first time this season after a massive seven-team trade sent him to Texas.

Durant might be trying to pull a page out of Travis Kelce’s playbook, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end who famously took a very public shot at singer Taylor Swift. Kelce’s shot landed, as the couple recently got engaged.

As for the show host herself, Adams is no stranger to these kinds of interactions. Most notably, Adams and ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania have had a dynamic relationship on the show, reaching the point that fans have wondered about their off-camera connection.

The story gained so much traction, in fact, that Charania was asked directly on “The Pat McAfee Show” in a February 2024 episode if he and Adams were dating. He seemed caught off guard by the questioning and didn’t have a direct answer.

“That’s a great colleague of mine. I think she’s amazing,” Charania said on the show. “I think she’s amazing at what she does. I enjoy going on her show. Obviously, she has, to me — like with you, similarly, you make me feel comfortable when I’m on your show. She makes me feel very comfortable. We saw the Super Bowl together.”

Durant is not the first big name to make his move this weekend.

On Saturday, October 4, on ESPN’s College GameDay, comedian and podcaster Theo Von was shut down by analyst Jess Sims. Von served as the celebrity guest picker during the show.

“Oh, I’m already going?” The comedian asked Sims when he was told to share his next batch of picks. “Do I get to see you again?”

“See you later,” she quipped. “No, I hope not.”

Only time will tell if Durant’s attempts fare any better.
