PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let Meghan Trainor replace Katy Perry on American Idol. The singer is currently campaigning to take over the role as the long-time judge exits the show after seven years. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens Live, Trainor told Andy Cohen: “I have begged for this job.”
“I’ve done every interview in the world and said that that is my dream job,” she shared, adding that she has already “emailed three awesome people who work in that world,” noting that they “don’t really have the full say but I begged.”
Trainor’s resume is stacked with 13 song entries on the Billboard Hot 100, six studio albums, and hosting gigs on The Four: Battle for Stardom, The Voice UK, and Australian Idol. Plus, she really, really, really wants this gig. “I haven’t heard any updates so check my emails but that is my dream job,” she said. “I want to drive to work American Idol and then drive home.”
With Perry gone from the music competition series, there’s a chair wide open next to Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. “I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America. But I need to feel that pulse of my own beat,” the singer said in February, adding: “They know that I have some things planned for this year. It’s going to be a very exciting year — for all pop star girlies.”
“Maybe I’ll come back if they have me one day,” Perry considered. But for the time being, Trainor has her eye on the prize.
