Meghan Markle Steps Into the 1st Day of Spring In Cheap Yet Chic Clogs

Meghan Markle ushered in the spring equinox on Thursday, March 20, with an Instagram post on her As Ever feed featuring her go-to garden clogs. In one swift move, she further solidified her image as a former royal who is now embracing her far more accessible and affordable style.

This seemingly simple footwear choice speaks volumes about her carefully curated wardrobe. Markle, 43, lets us know she’s on board with gardening, as she demonstrated throughout several scenes (and outfit changes) in her Netflix series With Love, Meghan.

In one episode, we saw her pick a DIY flower bouquet barefoot and bohemian-style in the backyard of the Montecito estate, but more often than not, she was tending to her lush vegetables and feeding the chickens while grounded in the said cheap yet chic clogs ($49).

Across Markle’s series, her enjoyment of everyday activities — cooking, crafting and gardening — is meticulously showcased, reinforcing this image. This pursuit of normalcy is mirrored in her wardrobe, a thoughtful blend of high-low fashion.

Her sartorial choices in the series reveal a keen understanding of contemporary style. Breezy shirts and medium-wash jeans create a casual yet chic foundation, while her deliberate mix of Zara with Loro Piana and more demonstrates a mastery of aspirational yet affordable dressing.

The garden clogs, in particular, further underscore this commitment to practicality. Both the terracotta Crocs and the British Green Gardenheir styles, seen as she trodded through her garden patch, are under $100, demonstrating style need not come at an exorbitant price.

This embrace of affordable footwear, alongside her high-end pieces, highlights her ability to navigate diverse fashion landscapes. But beyond their practicality, these slip-on styles align with a broader fashion trend.

The shift towards comfortable, effortless footwear, as seen among Paris Fashion Week’s most standout shoes, like Chloé’s revival of wooden platforms, reflects a cultural desire for ease and nostalgia.

Therefore, Markle’s embrace of the humble clog is a significant step towards a more relaxed, approachable personal sense of style with a fashion-forward alignment plucked right off the runway.
