Harry Potter and his friends are returning for a new series on HBO that’s set to premiere in 2026. The network announced the news in April 2023.
“The stories from each of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books will become a decade-long series produced with the same epic craft, love and care this global franchise is known for. The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over twenty-five years,” HBO said in the press release.
The following month, the new cast of the popular trio Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger were announced.

Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger
Arabella Stanton was announced as Hermione Granger, who was previously played by Emma Watson.

The leading man was announced on May 27, 2025, unveiling Dominic McLaughlin as the new Harry Potter.
Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley
Ron Weasley, who was once portrayed by Rupert Grint, will be played by young actor Alastair Stout.
John Lithgow as Dumbledore
“I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party,” John Lithgow said of taking the role played by the late Richard Harris in the first two films.
Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall
The late Maggie Smith played the transfiguration professor (and Gryffindor head) in seven movies.
Nick Frost as Hagrid
Nick Frost will step in for the late Robbie Coltrane, who wore the half-giant groundskeeper’s shoes in eight movies.
