Madonna says goodbye to Mexico in style with Salma Hayek

Madonna's week in Mexico could not have had a better ending, when out of nowhere, Mexican actress Salma Hayek appeared on stage dressed in the outfits that characterized Frida Kahlo in her paintings, which drove the thousands of fans who packed the Palacio de los Deportes, east of Mexico City, crazy.

Hayek, who was the star of "Frida", the biopic film about the life of the famous Mexican artist in 2002, went up in a typical tehuana costume, with a skirt with Mexican embroidery and a black corset with transparencies, her hair braided with floral ornaments.

The crowd climaxed at the sight of one of the most recognized and important Mexican artists of all time.

Upon taking the stage, Madonna and Salma Hayek gave each other a long hug, and then "rated" their dancers while "Vogue" was playing, in a competition that included one of Madonna's daughters, Estere, whom Salma rated with a 10.

Madonna and the importance of Frida in her life

During the week that the Queen of Pop was in Mexico City, she talked about the importance of Frida Kahlo in her life, remembering that when she was a teenager she went to the Detroit art museum and saw a portrait of Frida that helped her to get ahead.

She related that, as she learned a little more about the life of the Mexican painter, she considered her "my soul mate, my inner muse, mother, spiritual animal, everything".

Madonna's emotional message to her friends who have died

Throughout this tour, the performance of "Live To Tell" has served to pay tribute "to all the shining lights we lost to AIDS," as the stage featured images of Queen vocalist Freddy Mercury, as well as artist and social activist Keith Haring, and actress and writer Cookie Mueller.

Madonna did not forget her mother, who died of cancer when the Queen of Pop was just 5 years old, and also made mention of two other music legends of the 80's such as Michael Jackson and Prince.

"The first time I came to Mexico was to find medicine and cures, something to save my friends who were dying of AIDS, because people didn't care. That's when I said I was going to fight for the rights of people who don't have a voice until the day I die," Madonna told the audience.

"It's important to understand that we are lucky, very lucky, to be alive, to have each other, death is everywhere and in spite of that, in spite of that, this is a celebration, we celebrate life, love," she added.

The next stop on "The Celebration Tour" will be May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in a free concert expected to be attended by millions of people, in what has been said could be Madonna's final world tour.
