MGK also shed light on the heartbreakingly eerie circumstances around the creation of his latest song.
"I appreciate everyone listening to 'Your Name Forever,' the song for our bro Dingo that came about the same hour that he was passing away," he said on his Instagram Stories March 18. "I had a weird feeling in my gut. We were doing a completely different song and, out of nowhere, I just was like, 'Nah, let's make something different. I'm feeling…' The words I said was, 'I'm feeling angry.'"
"We switched songs and started making that one and the only line that I had laid down was, 'Someone call me back I'll paint my coffin black if no one will,'" he continued. "I didn't really understand why I was saying that line…The next phone call we got was that he was gone. Clearly, then, it turned into Dingo's song. That was the purpose of why that started. The next day we came back in and made probably the hardest song I ever had to make in my career. Dingo forever."
The musician—who shares daughter Casie, 15, with Emma Cannon—previously shared his grief following the passing of Dingo.
"I’ve lost a lot of friends, but I’ve never lost a brother,” MGK wrote in a post on Instagram March 7. “We’ll never get another Dingo on this planet. A true rockstar without ever needing to make a song, the most loyal, loud, charismatic, funny, and annoying human I’ve ever had the honor of knowing.”
He continued by sharing that he imagines the late pro snowboarder helping prepare his future baby for the world.
“I feel like your [sic] up there with my new child, dressed up in a hilarious costume making them laugh, getting ready to send them down,” MGK continued. “I couldn’t ask for a more bittersweet birth blessing."
