Jennifer Lawrence movie, JonBenet Ramsey miniseries set to film in Calgary this summer

The Alberta film and television industry will have a busy summer, with a high-profile film starring Oscar-winner Jennifer Lawrence and a miniseries about JonBenet Ramsey among the projects set to go into production within the next few months.

A source close to the productions, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said both projects have been green-lit.

Lawrence, who has been nominated for four Oscars and won in 2013 for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, will star in Die, My Love for director Lynne Ramsay.

Internet Movie Database describes the film as a comedy, drama and horror about a mother struggling with psychosis in a “forgotten rural area.” It is based on the 2012 novel of the same name by Argentine writer Ariana Harwicz. Ramsay is a critically acclaimed Scottish director whose past films include 1999’s Ratcatcher, 2002’s Morvern Callar, 2011’s We Need to Talk About Kevin and 2017’s You Were Never Really Here. Cameras are expected to roll in July.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, The JonBenet Ramsey miniseries is being developed by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios and will have the same producers of Yellowstone and its spinoffs. The article names director and screenwriter Richard LaGravenese as the series showrunner.

The film is expected to start shooting in August.

July will also see the return of My Life with the Walter Boys to Alberta. The family drama, shot for Netflix, will shoot its second season in Alberta. Production is currently underway for Kurt Sutter’s western series The Abandons, also for Netflix. That project is expected to wrap in October. Game of Thrones Lena Headey and the X-Files Gillian Anderson star as two mothers “locked in a bloody feud.”
