A good way to forecast trends is by taking one sweeping look across the Harper’s Bazaar offices. For months now, editors have been elevating their cold-weather outfits with a simple jewelry trend—an organic accessory unearthed from our favorite ’90s street style moments. Now, the latest sighting of Jennifer Lawrence has all but cemented the jewelry piece’s revival.
The actor, who is currently pregnant with her second child with husband Cooke Maroney, was photographed out and about in New York City on February 12. She, too, was clad in her winter uniform, which consisted of a long leopard-print fur coat from By Malene Birger, a navy blue knit sweater, and straight-leg jeans. Accessorizing over winter layers is no simple feat, which is maybe why Lawrence opted for the chic simplicity of a long black cord necklace.
The cord necklace, a beloved staple of ’90s wardrobes, has recently received a modern update, as seen on the runways of Gabriela Hearst, Alexandre Vauthier, Tom Ford, and so many more. In particular, Lawrence’s iteration of the trend featured a glossy red circular pendant, which hung low towards the center of her torso. She completed the look with some more no-fuss pieces, including a ribbed knit beanie from Toteme, a black leather tote bag from the Row, black sunglasses, and chunky black boots.

Lawrence’s choice of jewelry wasn’t the only burgeoning street style trend she championed yesterday. Her statement coat also aligns with the fashion set’s growing devotion to fur (faux, vintage, or otherwise)—a pattern also seen in recent street style sightings from Hailey Bieber, Anya Taylor-Joy, Kate Moss, and Rihanna.
