Jennifer Lawrence Adds Another Movie To Her Slate As She’s Set To Star In Graphic Novel Adaptation From A24

Jennifer Lawrence has been cast in an upcoming graphic novel adaptation from A24. Best known for playing Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games movies, Lawrence is now one of the most popular actors of her generation. She has been nominated for four Oscars, winning Best Actress for Silver Linings Playbook. Last year, the actor appeared in No Hard Feelings, for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy.

As per Deadline, Lawrence has now been cast in the A24 movie Why Don't You Love Me?. The project itself is nascent, as the studio just announced that they are optioning the adaptation rights for Paul B. Rainey's graphic novel of the same name. Why Don't You Love Me? will be written by Robert Funke. No other cast members have been unveiled yet, but among the film's producers are Lawrence, Ari Aster, Justine Ciarrocchi, Lars Knudsen, and Emily Hildner.

Jennifer Lawrence Has A Busy Schedule Coming Up

This Is Not Her Only Project With A24

The plot of the 2023 graphic novel Why Don't You Love Me? involves a couple battling marital issues. During their relationship struggles, it dawns on them that something might be wrong with their reality. With Aster attached as a producer, there is certain to be a trippy quality to the movie. This element will also serve Lawrence well as she comes off of mind-bending work such as mother!.

The announcement of Why Don't You Love Me? arrives after another Lawrence and A24 movie was announced a few weeks back. This project is called The Wives, which is a murder mystery inspired by Bravo's Real Housewives franchise. As in the case of Why Don't You Love Me?, The Wives has Lawrence involved as both an actor and a producer. It is a co-production for Apple Studios and A24, but with these two projects, it seems like Lawrence is developing a closer relationship with the latter.

In addition to The Wives and Why Don't You Love Me?, Lawrence also has a smattering of additional upcoming projects. This includes starring in the Luca Guadagnino drama Burial Rights and the Lynne Ramsey dark comedy Die, My Love. She is also set to star in the films East of Eden, Sue, and Mob Girl. This jam-packed upcoming slate reasserts Lawrence as one of the most powerful talents of her generation.

With Why Don't You Love Me? and The Wives, Lawrence continues a collaboration with A24 that began with 2022's Causeway and shows no sign of stopping. While this is notable in her own busy career, it also fits in well with A24's recent trend of seeing notable actors make their A24 film debut. A recent example is Kristen Stewart, who launched her first A24 film this year by starring in Rose Glass' Love Lies Bleeding. Hugh Grant will also take on an A24 project for the first time, starring in the upcoming horror film Heretic this fall.

Lawrence is distinct from someone like Stewart because she has been largely dissociated from the indie film scene. While she got her start in independent films like Winter's Bone, she spent years in the mainstream after making films like X-Men: First Class and The Hunger Games. Lawrence has spoken about taking an acting hiatus after 2019's Dark Phoenix, and it appears she has since shifted her priorities somewhat, balancing larger, star-studded work with smaller projects that lean on her name.

Securing Lawrence as a repeat collaborator is a sign of how far A24 has come as a studio and distributor. When A24's first films were put out in 2013, they included tiny titles such as A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III, Ginger & Rosa, Spring Breakers, and The Bling Ring. Now, they have found more success at the box office and in terms of awards, putting out films like Everything Everywhere All At Once and this year's successful Civil War. Why Don't You Love Me? may be another such success that could raise A24's profile even further.

Lawrence Serves As Producer And Actor

Why Don't You Love Me? will also further establish Lawrence's career as a producer. This move is relatively new for Lawrence, as she produced her first film in 2022 with Causeway. Since then, the actor has only gone on to produce two other releases so far: the documentary Bread & Roses and her 2023 comedy No Hard Feelings.

Including The Wives and Why Don't You Love Me?, she now has at least five producing opportunities coming up. This is big news for her, as it means she is stepping up into a higher creative position in addition to her on-screen work. She's joining other actors of her generation, such as Margot Robbie and Emma Stone, in taking that step, and it could make for as exciting a chapter in her career as those two have recently enjoyed.
