Could the Wizarding World be colliding with the Marvel Cinematic Universe? The internet is currently in a frenzy following reports that Emma Watson is the top choice for a lead role in the highly anticipated Black Widow solo film.

Fans have been clamoring for more of Natasha Romanoff ever since Scarlett Johansson first suited up in ’s Iron Man . Now, with Marvel Studios finally making the solo project a priority, the hunt for Natasha’s co-star is officially on—and a very familiar face is leading the pack.

According to a report from That Hashtag Show, the Harry Potter alum is currently the “front-runner” to play a character described as a “kick-ass female James Bond.”

The buzz suggests that the idea of casting Watson is gaining serious favor with director Cate Shortland, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, and producer Brad Winderbaum. While no official offer has been made, the thought of Watson and Johansson sharing the screen has already sent X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok into a tailspin.

“If Emma Watson joins the MCU, I will never recover,” one fan posted on X, while another added, “Hermione Granger as a super-spy? Yes, please!”

While Watson is the name on everyone’s lips, she isn’t the only star in the running. The report notes that several other rising stars are being considered, including Alice Englert (Ratched), Dar Zuzovsky (Hostages), and Florence Pugh (Fighting With My Family).

Both Englert and Zuzovsky have reportedly auditioned and left a “strong impression” on the casting team. Interestingly, all four actresses are younger than the initial character breakdowns suggested, hinting that the script—originally penned by Jac Schaeffer—may have undergone some recent changes.

For Watson, this would mark a massive career pivot. While she dominated the box office as Belle in Disney’s live-action Beauty and the Beast, a role in Black Widow would be her first foray into a true, high-octane action franchise.

However, Marvel fans know the drill: nothing is official until Kevin Feige says it is. With Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home still on the horizon, Marvel is keeping their “Phase ” plans under a heavy cloak of invisibility.

Filming for Black Widow is reportedly set to begin this summer, so it won’t be long before we find out if Emma is officially trading her wand for a tactical suit.
