Both impeccable actors with a natural knack for comedy, the film is thus filled with moments that will leave the audience wheezing with laughter. And one behind-the-scenes moment is particularly funny despite Salma Hayek accidentally hurting Reynolds in the face during an on-set accident.
When Salma Hayek Punched Ryan Reynolds in the Face

Salma Hayek and Ryan Reynolds starred in the action comedy film, the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, back in 2021. Although the movie failed to live up to its hype, despite the presence of some of the finest actors in the film industry, it resulted in impeccable chemistry and hilarious behind-the-scenes videos.
And one moment stands out despite Salma Hayek punching Ryan Reynolds in the face. During their initial scenes together at a restaurant, Hayek’s character Sonia has to punch Reynolds’s character, Michael Bryce, but the actress ends up punching him for real, really hurting him.
In the behind-the-scenes video posted on YouTube, Hayek can be seen knocking off Ryenold’s glasses and hitting him right where she is not supposed to. Hayek then hilariously apologizes to the Deadpool star before blaming him for getting hit!
Oh! I’m sorry. I hit him again. I’m so sorry… Why do you bounce your f**king head back?
States Hayek as the two actors engage in a friendly verbal spat. As things calm down and they get back to shooting, Hayek starts to laugh, visibly afraid of hurting her co-star again as Reynolds meekly states,
I am so scared. I’m fucking so scared right now.
The lighthearted banter between the two actors is proof of the genuine connection they share, demonstrating that despite a minor mishap on set, they maintained a lighthearted attitude and continued to laugh about the incident.
Ryan Reynolds Can Still Feel the Sting of Salma Hayek’s Tiny Hand

Ryan Reynolds had a fun time shooting for the Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, despite the minor on-set incident mentioned above (see BBC Radio 1). Yet the shoot must not have been as fun of an experience for the Deadpool star, who not only got punched by Hayek, but also by Samuel L. Jackson and Frank Grillo (via Inside of You Podcast).
In an interview with Variety, Reynolds exclaimed how despite being punched and slapped by his co-stars, it was Hayek who hurt him the most.
In ‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,’ I’m slapped in the face twice by Salma and once by Samuel L. Jackson. For the record, it was Salma who didn’t pull the punches. Not even once. I can still feel the sharp sting of her tiny hand working its way into my soft Hollywood cheekbones. May God have mercy on her soul.
