Romain Gavras became known for directing music videos for M.I.A and Jay-Z before making his foray into filmmaking. His previous works drew attention at major film festivals around the world, including 2018’s The World is Yours, starring Vincent Cassel. This paved the way for a Hollywood debut complete with a major casting lineup in terms of the lead actors. According to Deadline, the logline for Sacrifice reads: A high-end charity gala is raided by a violent group of radicals on a mystical quest to fulfill a prophecy.
The movie offers a fresh pairing between Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy, who incidentally have both played Marvel superheroes in the past. Salma Hayek is also part of the list, with Brendan Fraser being the odd man out since he played a DC character in Doom Patrol instead. Fraser has been on a roll ever since his Oscar win for Best Actor in The Whale, and audiences have welcomed his triumphant return to acting after a long hiatus.
