'The whole world felt like a promise. and the lessons that lay ahead, yet unseen,' she goes on before arriving an a Colosseum filled with Amazons in a gladiator-like competition.

Ladies display an amazing array of strengths all around the arena, before a new batch of competitors line up for a challenge.

Surprisingly a pint-sized Diana is in the mix.

'I've seen this contest humble even the most seasoned warriors, Diana,' warned her aunt Antiope, played by Robin Wright.

'I can do it,' the plucky adventurer assured.

'Just do your best and remember greatness is not what you think,' her aunt reminded her. 'Pace yourself and watch.'

As little Diana begins the race, the scene weaves to the present where Gal is seen rushing through a dingy street.

'Your time will come, Diana,' the voiceover says, as Gadot whips her golden lasso in front of her. 'You will become all that you dream of and more.'

'Everything will be different,' they continue as Wonder Woman dodges a bullet and then whips it out of the air to avoid innocent bystanders.

Already Wonder Woman 1984 is getting mixed reviews, with Variety's Peter Debruge writing: 'Jenkins is an enormously talented filmmaker on whom the studio took a chance – one that's seldom questioned when conferred upon men – and she proves her worth by never letting the spectacle drown out the performances.'

USA Today's Brian Truitt saying: '[WW 1984] returns Gal Gadot as the Amazon princess with the bulletproof bracelets, introduces a couple worthy foes, and is a pretty fun time even if the extremely busy "1984" almost wears out its welcome at a hefty two and a half hours.'

Thrillist's Esther Zuckerman wrote: 'There's a lot to love in WW84: bold performances from a delightful cast, fantastic costumes, Jenkins' fast-paced direction. But it's in service of a plot that loses sight of what makes the character so great in the first place.'

Wonder Woman 1984 comes out December 16th, 2020 internationally and December 25th via HBO Max. The film saw several release delays due to COVID-19 and prior production concerns.
