Jennifer Lawrence is officially endorsing Kamala Harris for president, and the reason is a simple one: “Abortion is literally on the ballot,” the Oscar-winning actor told People magazine.
“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because I think she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will do whatever she can to protect reproductive rights,” Lawrence said while urging others to vote similarly. “That’s the most important thing, is to not let somebody into the White House who is going to ban abortion.”
Lawrence is currently producing two documentaries through her Excellent Cadaver company that tackle reproductive rights issues. One of these films is “Bread and Roses,” which chronicles three women living under Taliban rule in Afghanistan, and the other is “Zurawski v Texas,” which follows the abortion care supporters who made headlines for suing the state of Texas in 2023.
“As online trolls like to point out every time I get involved in politics, I didn’t go to school, I dropped out of middle school, so I don’t have a classic education,” Lawrence said. “So storytelling is where I get most of my education.”
“That’s the beautiful, amazing thing about film and documentaries,” she added. “Hearing facts or listening to the news, hearing certain things happen, it’s very easy to forget until you actually see human existence and you see what’s going on. I think that’s when minds can be changed.”
Lawrence is the latest high-profile celebrity to endorse Harris for president in the upcoming election against Donald Trump. George Clooney, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish are among the many other Hollywood names throwing their weight behind Harris’ campaign.
