Accio tissues! Every Harry Potter fan who spent years shipping Hermione Granger and Draco Malfoy just got the ultimate early holiday gift.
In a sneak peek of the upcoming Harry Potter th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts special, Emma Watson is getting candid about her real-life crush on fellow star Tom Felton.
While their characters were famous rivals on screen, things were very different behind the scenes at Hogwarts. Watson, who was just years old when she was cast as the brilliant Hermione, recalled the specific moment her heart skipped a beat for the boy behind the platinum blonde hair.
The “spark” happened during a tutoring session on set, where the young cast was given a creative assignment: draw what you think God looks like.
“Tom had drawn a girl with a backward cap on a skateboard,” Watson reveals in the special. “And I just don’t know how to say it—I just fell in love with him.”
The confession has sent shockwaves through X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok, where “Dramione” fans have long obsessed over the duo’s off-screen chemistry.
Watson admits her crush was so intense that she developed a daily routine just to see if she would be working with Felton, who is two years her senior.
“I used to come in every day and look for his number on the call sheet,” she shares, noting that his designation was “number seven.”
“If his name was on the call sheet, it was an extra exciting day,” she adds with a laugh.
Felton, who began playing the cunning Draco Malfoy at age , was aware of the young star’s admiration. However, because of their age gap, he initially saw her in a more familial light.
“I think I was in the hair and make-up chair and someone said something along the lines of, ‘Yeah, she has a crush on you,'” Felton recalls.
Because he was slightly older, Felton says he became “very protective” over Watson. “I’ve always had a soft spot for her and that continues to this day,” he notes, describing their bond as a “kinship.”
Though the two never actually dated, their friendship has remained one of the most enduring legacies of the franchise. The pair even share a warm, lingering embrace during the reunion, which celebrates years since The Sorcerer’s Stone hit theaters.
While Hermione and Draco may have never found romance in the Great Hall, it’s clear that Watson and Felton found something just as magical: a lifelong friendship.
Fans can catch the full trip down memory lane when the reunion special premieres on HBO Max on New Year’s Day.
