Netflix has a new #1 movie on the service, a licensed grab, not an original. That would be Subservience, which stars Megan Fox as a helpful android meant to assist a father after his wife passes.
This movie is bad. Do not watch it. It has rotten critic and audience scores, and I saw it a while back when it came to rental streaming. I cannot recommend it at all. I thought it might be doing sort of an interesting twist on the concept, like (spoilers follow), Fox’s android being the one to escape an eventually abusive father, but instead it’s just…exactly what you’d expect. Fox gets too close to her mission of protecting the daughter and ends up going crazy and murderous as a result. Yes, it’s essentially a worse version of M3GAN, only Megan Fox is in her underwear sometimes.
But Megan Fox is a really talented horror actress, and there are two specific Fox horror movies I would recommend you watch instead.
Most of you probably know the first one I’m about to say, Jennifer’s Body, going all the way back to 2009 when Fox had just broken onto the scene in Transformers. The film was way ahead of its time with Fox as a demon possessed it girl, seducing and devouring mainly men. Fox is excellent in the role, and the film also boasts a pretty crazy cast which includes Amanda Seyfried, Adam Brody, Kyle Gallner, Chris Pratt, JK Simmons and Amy Sedaris. Jennifer’s Body should have been an explosive box office hit. It only made $31 million worldwide. A shame, but now it’s a true horror classic.
The other Megan Fox horror film I’d recommend is far more overlooked and far more recent. That would be Till Death, a movie where Fox finds herself handcuffed to her dead husband as a form of revenge, and must survive being targeted by other killers who find themselves invading her house. She’s dragging around this body half the movie and it’s actually a really good concept that she does well with. No, it’s not Jennifer’s Body, but it’s still a good time, and certainly better than Subservience.
