DC’s New Wonder Woman & How Her Suit Differs From Gal Gadot’s Revealed In Official DCU Trailer

Wonder Woman has made her DC Universe debut in a new trailer for the franchise's first project. Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman in two solo films and a few other DCEU movies. When Wonder Woman 3 was canceled, it seemed like her future as the character was sealed, though Gadot later claimed that she would develop the third movie with DC Studios. Reports then revealed that was not true, and Wonder Woman's recasting for the DCU has become a major topic of conversation. Shockingly, before a movie for Diana Prince has even been announced, Wonder Woman has joined the DCU.

DC (via @jordnjnes/Twitter) has released a new trailer for Creature Commandos episode 4, showing the first look at the new DCU's Wonder Woman, who wears her swimsuit-like costume.

The footage shows the debut of major DCU characters, which include Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Booster Gold, Hawkgirl, and, seemingly, Damian Wayne's Robin. Wonder Woman's role comes in the form of a vision of a bleak future shown by Circe — a Wonder Woman villain — to Amanda Waller. Previously, another part of the vision had also been shown in a trailer, with David Corenswet's Superman debuting in Creature Commandos. Starfire and Peacemaker are also in the sequence.

What Wonder Woman’s DCU Debut Means

The New Diana Pince's Suit Differs From Gal Gadot's

Interestingly, Wonder Woman's first DCU appearance leads to two observations. The first is related to her costume. In the DCU, Diana will wear her classic swimsuit-like costume. In live-action, Lynda Carter's version of Wonder Woman also wore the suit. As for the movies, Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman costume was inspired by the heroine's more battle-ready version of the suit from the comics. The DCEU saw Diana wear an armored version of the Wonder Woman costume with a blue, metallic skirt. Since David Corenswet's Superman brought back the red trunks, it makes sense that the DCU's Wonder Woman wears the swimsuit.

Another key observation that comes from Wonder Woman's DCU debut is related to the characters that appear in Circe's vision. Of all the heroes shown, only Wonder Woman does not have an announced project in the franchise. While Starfire's live-action DCU debut has not been officially commented on by James Gunn or DC Studios, a Teen Titans movie is reportedly in development, and her connection to the team makes her appearance there almost certain. This could mean that Gunn does have a Wonder Woman movie planned for the next few years, but has not announced it yet.

Our Take On Wonder Woman’s DCU Debut

So far, Wonder Woman and Superman are confirmed for Creature Commandos. Batman is the only member of DC's Trinity left, but given how Damian Wayne is there, he could be in the full sequence. It is exciting to finally get concrete Wonder Woman news after some time with no updates. Gunn previously said that Wonder Woman would debut within the DCU's first three years, but I was not expecting an appearance in Creature Commandos. Still, I'm happy to see the new Wonder Woman debut, and giving her the classic swimsuit is a nice way to differentiate her from Gal Gadot's.
