Chrissy Teigen is getting candid about a topic that’s dominated headlines, social feeds and Hollywood circles — and this time, she’s sharing her personal story.

The model, 39, revealed that she started taking GLP-1 medication Ozempic after she and husband John Legend suffered the devastating loss of their late son, Jack, in 2020.

“There I was, existing in a body that didn’t feel like mine, with absolutely nothing to celebrate — just the constant reminder that this body that once carried life for 20 weeks, was now just a … sad reminder,” she captioned an Instagram post on Thursday, September 18.

“Food has always been my joy, my comfort, and my struggle,” the cookbook author continued, detailing the “shame, the relief and the weirdness of losing hunger” that she felt.

Teigen spoke in detail about taking Ozempic — a type 2 injectable diabetes drug that gained popularity due to its weight loss benefits — with Johann Hari, author of The Magic Pill, on her “Self-Conscious with Chrissy Teigen” podcast.

“I started at .5 and I worked my way up to 15 really quickly though, probably within three months,” Teigen shared on the episode.

“Looking back on the photos actually, I think you go into, like, this Ozempic blindness, and I think a lot of people do it when they start it. You end up losing such an incredible amount of weight that you just are so excited and proud or whatever that feeling is — that you don’t realize that you’ve lost too much,” the star continued.

She went on to discuss the heartbreak of losing her son Jack at “a little over 20 weeks” along.

“My body was completely stuck,” she said following her miscarriage. “I really let myself indulge when I was pregnant. So, when I had lost that baby at 20 weeks, I had probably gained an extra 40 pounds that I wasn’t comfortable with.”

After seeing results with Ozempic, “I felt mentally better because I wasn’t constantly, like, in this deep depression of seeing this pregnant belly with no baby in it,” Teigen explained. “I also felt released from the prison of thinking about food in bad ways. Good food in bad ways.”

“It’s insane what it did for not only me physically, but mentally,” she added.

However, there were some downsides as she described eating on Ozempic “like force-feeding sometimes just so I could go about my day and go about my job. And that, for me, is almost torturous: not being hungry at all and consuming food … I f***ing hate that.”

Teigen even spoke about the “shame” that so many celebrities face for turning to Ozempic, noting how they are criticized for losing weight the “easy” way. The mom of four admitted that she was initially hesitant to speak about taking the GLP-1 medication, because “I sell cookbooks … I eat food that I want. and I’m not being truthful.” (Teigen shares Luna, 9, Miles, 7, Esti, 2, and Wren, 2 with Legend).

Teigen and Hari, 46, concluded the podcast by speaking about self-love and finding appreciation in “our bodies” instead of leaning into conflict or “our imperfections.”
