Since the dawn of music videos, pop stars and rockers alike have been giving their significant others starring roles.
Back in the early days of MTV, Billy Joel cast Christie Brinkley in the video for “Uptown Girl,” which debuted in 1983. The duo were just friends at that point, having met earlier in the year in St. Barts, but two years later, they tied the knot.
“I tried to look like me on an album cover,” the “Piano Man” singer recalled in 1986, describing his first meeting with his future wife. “I gave it every angle I could. … The music was the key to the introduction.”
Brinkley and Joel split in 1994, but the tradition of couples appearing in music videos together lived on. In 1995, the late Michael Jackson made headlines when he appeared in a semi-nude scene with his then-wife, Lisa Marie Presley, in the “You Are Not Alone” video. The pair divorced the following year, but the video remains online.

Sabrina Carpenter and Barry Keoghan
Carpenter and the Saltburn star started dating in late 2023, nearly one year before sharing the screen together in her “Please Please Please” music video. In the clip, Carpenter meets Keoghan in prison.
“I ended the last video getting arrested, so naturally I thought it would be satisfying to start the ‘Please Please Please’ video in jail,” she told Vogue in June 2024, referring to her “Espresso” music video. “I liked the idea of falling in love with a convict and being shocked and embarrassed every time he commits crimes. I was sooo lucky to get Barry Keoghan in the video cause he is just magic on screen.”

Hinting much? Young lovebirds Jason Derulo and Jordin Sparks didn't shy away from hiding their affection for each other in Derulo's "Marry Me" music video in 2013. Lady Gaga and Taylor Kinney met while the Chicago Fire actor appeared in her music video "You and I" in August 2011. "We were in the middle of this scene and I remember that he kissed me and it wasn't scripted for him to kiss me," Gaga said about Kinney's role during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November 2013. No goodbye here! Mariah Carey and then-husband Nick Cannon got up close and personal in a pool while filming her 2008 video "Bye Bye." The international megastar and America's Got Talent host tied the knot in April 2008 and welcomed twins, son Morrocan and daughter Monroe, in April 2011. The pair later divorced in 2016.
