A source close to the actor noted that the nearly decade-long divorce had controlled his life for so many years, and despite loving the actress wholeheartedly, he still made some mistakes.
The process was reportedly a very divisive and toxic situation for the entire family, and the aftermath left a dredge between Pitt and his kids. Pitt and Jolie, who tied the knot in 2014 after dating for 10 years, could only hold up their union for two years before they split in 2016.
The infamous plane incident in 2016 and his struggle with alcohol abuse all culminated in a huge blow to the delicate union and eventually turned his kids against him.
The divorce reportedly descended into a custody war that led to his biggest regret yet, but he wants to make things right. Pitt, however, does not blame Jolie for how things turned out, especially with the kids.
“The case is over but there are no winners. To have that behind him is a relief. But on the other hand, it’s been hard for him because he doesn’t have a great relationship with his kids,” the source concluded to Page Six.

Since his split from Jolie, the actor has embarked on addressing one of the root causes of his marital breakdown. He took the first step by getting professional help via an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in 2016.
As shared by The Blast last month, Pitt admitted on a podcast that the experience was so “amazing” that it opened his eyes to how urgently he needed to fix his life. He explained that discovering AA was the product of a desperate search for redemption. According to him:
“I was trying anything and everything, anything anyone threw at me. It was a difficult time. I needed rebooting.”
The actor initially felt reluctant about confronting his current situation, but the transparency displayed by everyone in the meeting was beyond inspiring.
Describing the experience as a special one and a shift from a life he grew up knowing, Pitt added, “I just thought it was incredible, men sharing their experiences with their foibles, their missteps, their wants, their aches, and a lot of humor with it.”

Pitt and Jolie were spotted in New York at the same time over six months after they wrapped up their lengthy divorce. The actor was in the Big Apple on a press tour for his “F1” movie, where he reportedly enjoyed the company of his girlfriend.
The lovebirds were guests at the Whitby Hotel in midtown and even made an appearance on the red carpet for the movie. As for Jolie, the reason for her presence in the city was unknown.
An insider claimed that Jolie had actually planned to relocate to the city two years ago, but she returned to Los Angeles after New York failed to meet her expectations.
The actress was eventually sighted, grocery shopping at the Fairway Market on the Upper West Side. However, the insider argued that Jolie could not stomach the fact that Pitt was in the spotlight for the right reasons this time.
“It’s just insane that Angelina would show up in the city the same week of Brad’s premiere… It’s like she’s haunting him,“ the source added.

Pitt discussed his position on finally sorting out his divorce from Jolie during his interview with GQ Magazine. He expressed his relief at officially resolving the divorce, which a very nasty custody battle had complicated.
Regardless of the stress and the financial part of such a high-profile separation, The Blast shared that Pitt’s reaction to getting the load off his back was pretty normal.
The actor expressed that the finalization was not a big deal; instead, it was something bound to eventually happen. Pitt was more grateful for the normalcy he feels in his “fairly contained” life, where he basks in the assurance of knowing his friends and family are always there for him.
