Once considered to be one of Hollywood’s powerhouse couples, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are now still involved in nasty legal battles stemming from their 2016 divorce. Oftentimes, time can heal wounds, especially for parents with children to raise.
But it seems in this case, animosity has grown, and the kids are siding with their mom, as Pitt and Jolie’s daughter Shiloh has officially filed to have “Pitt” removed from her legal name.
Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt
Legally known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, the move seems like a pretty clear statement of ill will towards her father. Though nearly a decade has passed since her parents divorced, new details continue to emerge of what their home life was like, with very serious allegations included.
Angelina Jolie alleges that Brad Pitt physically attacked her and the kids on a flight in 2016, as well as screaming at them and dumping alcohol on them. Pitt denies that this occurred.
Distancing From Brad Pitt
However, Shiloh is not the only kid in the family whose actions seem to indicate a desire for distance from her father. The eldest daughter of the family, Zahara, joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority at Spelman College in 2023 and introduced herself sans the Pitt name.
15-year-old Vivienne likewise omitted Pitt’s name in a programme listing her as one of the performers in The Outsiders on Broadway. So battle lines seem to be clearly drawn in the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt family tree.
Strong Resentment?
The actions of the other siblings could be chalked up to mere frustration that might have faded. But Shiloh is the first one to want to make removing her father’s name legally official, which would indicate some pretty strong resentment.
All in all, the difficulties that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s household experienced nearly a decade ago have been kept pretty quiet. But it seems like the children of the family would no doubt have some stories to share about what they saw and experienced that turned them so strongly against their dad.
Legal Battles
Currently, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are still dealing with legal battles. While married, the couple had several business ventures that they ran together, including a winery called Chateau Miraval. Jolie sold her share of the business in 2022, which Pitt alleges she had no right to do as they had a business agreement that he would have to provide his consent for her to do that. He is suing her for doing so.
Angelina Jolie Countersuing
Meanwhile, Angelina Jolie is countersuing Brad Pitt, also in relation to the winery, claiming he took funds from the business without her consent and put them towards his own personal projects that she had not approved of.
So even though the two are long divorced at this point, it seems their clashes in court are far from over for the time being.
Staying Busy?
Regardless, both actors continue to also stay busy in Hollywood. Angelina Jolie’s last major role was in Marvel’s The Eternals, while Brad Pitt is helping to produce the upcoming Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Whatever turmoil the family is dealing with, public details remain largely scarce outside of moments like Shiloh’s legal petition being noticed by fans.
