Katy Perry left American Idol after seven seasons, and Luke Bryan is sharing names that could potentially replace her.
In a new interview, the country star name-dropped the stars that have “been in talks” to judge the competition next season.
“I’ve said several names. I think Pink has been in the talks, Miley Cyrus has been in the talks, Meghan Trainor has been in the talks,” Bryan told Billboard.
He continued, “It’s been interesting. It’s been something Disney been really tightlipped about with me and Lionel and Ryan. We currently haven’t heard what the story is on who’s coming back, and if Lionel and I are coming back. I think Disney is just trying to figure out what they want to do and we’re just kind of sitting back and waiting until they decide.”
Perry, Bryan, and Lionel Richie joined American Idol in Season 16 when ABC rebooted the competition. Bryan said that Perry was really perfect for that job, and I think they’re just working real hard to find somebody that can really come in and do the job that Katy did.”
Following her American Idol exit, Perry said she would focus on her music career and recently revealed the title of her new song, “Woman’s World,” which is set to drop on July 11.
Regarding the pop stars that Bryan named as potential replacements in the judge’s panel, Trainor recently said during an interview on Watch What Happens Live that it would be her “dream job.”
“I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world who don’t really have the final say,” Trainor said. “I have begged for this job … it’s my favorite show, I’ve watched it since I was a child.”
Pink recently told Entertainment Tonight that she likes her day job and added, “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings.”
