Get ready to feel infinite, Potterheads!

Emma Watson is officially preparing for life after Hogwarts, and her next move is already sparking a major frenzy online. The actress, beloved by millions as Hermione Granger, is reportedly in talks to star in the upcoming film adaptation of the iconic coming-of-age novel The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

According to Variety, Watson isn’t the only heartthrob heading to the production. Logan Lerman, fresh off his turn in Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief, is also in negotiations to star alongside her.

The project is being brought to life by John Malkovich’s Mr. Mudd production company, ensuring some serious Hollywood pedigree for the indie-leaning drama.

In a move that has bibliophiles cheering on social media, the book’s original author, Stephen Chbosky, is set to direct the film from his own screenplay. Fans of the novel know just how deeply personal the story is, and having the creator at the helm is a major win for authenticity.

For Watson, this marks a massive milestone in her career. It is her first feature film role outside of the Harry Potter franchise, where she spent a decade growing up on screen across eight blockbuster movies.

The story, which has been a staple of young adult literature for over a decade, is narrated by Charlie, a shy and unpopular teenager. Through a series of letters to an anonymous recipient, he navigates the “awkward times of adolescence,” diving into heavy themes like drug use, sexuality, and the search for belonging.

While Watson has spent years casting spells, this role will see her tackling the raw, emotional reality of American high school—and the internet is here for it. On X (formerly Twitter), fans are already casting their votes for which character she’ll play, with many hoping she’ll step into the shoes of the free-spirited Sam.

The film will be produced by Lianne Halfon, Russell Smith, and Malkovich himself.

While we’ll miss the Gryffindor robes, seeing Emma Watson embrace such a beloved, gritty story is the “wallflower” moment we’ve all been waiting for.
