The Magic Is Back! Emotional ‘Harry Potter’ Reunion Trailer Brings the Cast (and Fans) to Tears

By Chris Jones 03/07/2026

Wands at the ready, Potterheads—the reunion we’ve been waiting two decades for is finally coming into focus, and it’s every bit as emotional as you imagined.

In less than two weeks, HBO Max will debut Harry Potter th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, and the newly released trailer has the internet in a total meltdown. The clip is already going viral across X and TikTok, as fans witness the cast that raised a generation step back onto the original sets for the first time since the franchise wrapped.

The nostalgia starts strong with the familiar whistle of the Hogwarts Express. Fans were quick to spot their favorite witches and wizards wistfully strolling down Platform /, but it was the candid moments between the actors that truly sparked the online buzz.

Social media went into overdrive when the footage captured a glimpse of Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Emma Watson (Hermione Granger) sharing a warm embrace. It’s a “Dramione” shipper’s dream come true, and the comment sections are already flooded with heart emojis.

The trailer also delivers some hilarious behind-the-scenes gold. Fans were delighted to see Helena Bonham Carter casually popping in her “Bellatrix Lestrange choppers” (those terrifying prosthetic teeth!) to the sheer glee of Daniel Radcliffe.

“There’s magic in the air here with this incredible cast,” executive producer Casey Patterson said. “The excitement is palpable as they prepare to take their fans on a very special and personal journey.”

It’s not all laughs, though. The trailer touches on the massive weight of the franchise’s legacy. Ralph Fiennes, who famously played the “He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named,” admitted he didn’t initially understand the mammoth responsibility of playing Lord Voldemort. Don’t worry, Ralph—we forgive your Muggle beginnings!

The reunion marks the first time since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part hit theaters in that the trio—Radcliffe, Watson, and Rupert Grint—have sat down together in this capacity. They’ll be joined by a massive roster of alumni, including Robbie Coltrane, Gary Oldman, Jason Isaacs, and many more.

“This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon,” said Tom Ascheim, President of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics.

Whether you’re a Gryffindor or a Slytherin, the sight of the cast sitting in the Great Hall is enough to make anyone wish they had a Pensieve to relive it all. The special is set to be a “first-person journey” through the eight films that forever changed the landscape of cinema.

Harry Potter th Anniversary: Return To Hogwarts magically arrives on New Year’s Day on HBO Max.
