It’s the Hollywood mystery that has kept fans buzzing on X and TikTok for over a decade: Did Hermione Granger actually bail on a Seth Rogen movie?

As it turns out, the rumors are true. Seth Rogen is finally opening up about the moment Emma Watson decided she had seen enough on the set of his apocalyptic comedy, This Is the End.

In a candid new interview with GQ, the director and star confirmed the long-standing report that Watson walked off the project after refusing to film a particularly wild scene involving Danny McBride and a leashed Channing Tatum.

For those who need a refresher, the scene in question features McBride as a post-apocalyptic cannibal leader. In the version that made it to theaters, he holds a “gimp” on a leash—who is revealed to be a fictionalized, submissive version of Channing Tatum.

While the moment became a cult favorite for its sheer absurdity, it was apparently a bridge too far for the Harry Potter alum.

“I mean, I don’t look back on that and think, ‘How dare she do that?’ You know?” Rogen told GQ, showing a surprising amount of grace toward the situation. “I think sometimes when you read something, when it comes to life it doesn’t seem to be what you thought it was.”

Despite the dramatic exit, Rogen was quick to shut down any whispers of a “feud.” He emphasized that Watson remained professional and that the two are on great terms.

“It was not some terrible ending to our relationship,” Rogen explained. “She came back the next day to say goodbye. She helped promote the film. No hard feelings.”

In a twist that shows Rogen’s growth as a filmmaker, he even admitted that Watson might have had a point. He alluded to the fact that the version audiences eventually saw was tamer than the original concept she rejected.

“She was probably right,” Rogen confessed. “It was probably funnier the way we ended up doing it.”

The hit marked the directorial debut for Rogen and his creative partner Evan Goldberg, the minds behind comedy staples like Superbad. While Watson’s role was shortened, her cameo remains a highlight, featuring her stealing the boys’ supplies at ax-point after a massive misunderstanding.

Fans have flooded social media to react to the confirmation, with many praising Watson for sticking to her boundaries and Rogen for being “classy” enough to admit his mistakes.

It seems that even in the middle of a fictional apocalypse, mutual respect is the ultimate survival tool.

Would you have stayed for the “gimp” scene, or are you Team Emma on this one? Let us know in the comments!
