Jennifer Aniston and Gwyneth Paltrow are two of the biggest stars in the world. But at the end of the day, they’re also “girls,” Aniston says.

In a new cover story for Vanity Fair's September issue, the Friends alum, 56, opened up about her decades-long friendship with the actress and wellness guru, 52, with whom she shares an ex: Brad Pitt. In the interview, published Aug. 11, Aniston revealed that she and Paltrow occasionally acknowledge the ex factor.

When asked if they ever talk about the F1 actor, 61, Aniston told Vanity Fair, “Oh, of course.” (She delivered the reply, the magazine said, while “waving her hand and sounding everything like Rachel Green.”)

“How can we not? We’re girls,” added The Morning Show star. Though admittedly, she said, wellness topics dominate the stars’ conversation more than anything else. She and Paltrow, Aniston told the magazine, are “always swapping advice—‘What are you doing for this? What are you doing for that? Do you have a new doctor for that?’ ”

Of the Goop founder, Aniston also noted: “Ironically, I went to her and Brad’s engagement party.”

Paltrow and Pitt met while filming the movie Seven in 1994 and started dating shortly afterward. They dated for two years before Pitt popped the question in December 1996. Six months later, they called it quits. Reflecting on their romance years later, Paltrow called them "a very '90s couple,” per Vogue.

Aniston and Pitt, meanwhile, were introduced by their managers and secretly dated before tying the knot in a lavish 2000 ceremony. They split in 2005, with Aniston famously opening up about their divorce in a September 2005 Vanity Fair article titled "The Unsinkable Jennifer Aniston,"

In her new interview with the magazine, which comes nearly 20 years after the story (and the subsequent tabloid frenzy), the We're the Millers actress admitted that she has not “looked at that article in forever.” Said Aniston: “I just remember the experience of doing it — which was kind of jarring. It was also such a vulnerable time. But yeah, that was one for the memoirs.”

In the original 2005 article, Aniston told Vanity Fair, “I really do hope that someday we can be friends again.”

The exes have since delighted fans with several reunions over the years, including Pitt attending Aniston’s 50th birthday in 2019. The following year, the pair also shared a warm backstage embrace at the SAG Awards (that quickly went viral) and played love interests in a virtual table reading of Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Following the latter event, Aniston told Howard Stern there was no awkwardness between the pair, who are now “buddies.”

"It was absolutely fun. Brad and I are buddies, we're friends," Aniston said of the table reading on SiriusXM's The Howard Stern Show in 2021. "And we speak, and there's no oddness at all, except for everyone that probably watched it and was wanting there to be, or assumed there to be," she added. "We had fun, and it was for a great cause, [Sean Penn's community relief nonprofit] CORE."

Aniston is currently dating hypnotherapist Jim Curtis, while Pitt is currently in a relationship with jewelry designer Ines de Ramon. Paltrow, meanwhile, is married to writer-director Brad Falchuk.

The Morning Show season 4 debuts on Apple TV+ Sept. 17.
