Wonder Woman Director’s New DC Return Comments Are Perfect For 1 DCU Series

Wonder Woman's director from the old DCEU has addressed a possible return in the new DC Universe, but if that were to happen, the best project for her to helm might not be the most obvious one. Gal Gadot is not returning in James Gunn's DCU as Wonder Woman. The role will be recast for the Wonder Woman DCU movie.

Before the franchise was scrapped in favor of the new DCU, Patty Jenkins was working on the cancelled Wonder Woman 3. After reports claimed Jenkins walked away from conversations with DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran, the director denied it, claiming she understood there was nothing she could do to move forward with the project. Well, maybe the DCU is where she could return.

Recently, Patty Jenkins addressed a possible DC return during an interview with M.C.U.N. More specifically, the director was asked whether she could return to Wonder Woman in the new franchise, even if Gal Gadot would not be there by her side. According to Jenkins, she would consider it, saying, "You never say never because I love Wonder Woman."

That said, Jenkins made it clear that a DC return is not the priority for her. The Wonder Woman franchise director feels happy at the moment, exploring other types of projects outside the superhero genre. However, the fact that she did not close the door for a DC return and remains passionate about Wonder Woman could mean the best DCU project for her could come true.

Sure, DC has a new Wonder Woman movie in development for James Gunn's DCU. Based on her past work in the franchise, that film would likely be the first many fans think of after Patty Jenkins' new DC comments. However, it would be better for the Diana Prince franchise to get a fresh start, making the DCU Wonder Woman fully different from Gadot's.

That does not mean that Jenkins would need to leave the Wonder Woman corner of DC altogether. In fact, she would be the perfect director to helm the announced Wonder Woman prequel series, Paradise Lost. The TV show has been described as similar to HBO's Game of Thrones, focusing on the political intrigue among the Amazons of Themyscira before Diana's birth.

In the past, Jenkins was working on a Wonder Woman spinoff movie focused on the Amazons for DC. As such, she would be perfect for Paradise Lost, given that the two projects share the same core theme. This way, Jenkins could continue to be involved with Wonder Woman and revive her ideas for one of the DCEU projects that never came to be, pushing Paradise Lost to finally get moving in the DCU.
