No matter how many Pokémon announcements The Pokémon Company makes, it seems there's always something else fans are waiting to hear about. With the next Pokémon Presents taking place on July 22nd, 2025, it seems sensible that TPCi will likely share some information about Pokémon Legends: Z-A as well as other previously announced projects.
That being said, even knowing the realistic expectations, that doesn't stop Pokémon fans from doing some wishful thinking and hoping for things that Pokémon has in no way implied it might be announcing soon. Normally, I would say not to get your hopes up about things that seem unlikely, but being that this is the first Pokémon Presents following the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, there's a chance there could be some long-awaited announcements coming.
10 Any News About Detective Pikachu 2 Would Be Good News
This Project May Not Be Officially Canceled, But I Don't Know If We'll Ever See It
Kicking things off with the most unlikely announcement for the upcoming Pokémon Presents, Detective Pikachu 2. This is not about the game, for which there is already a sequel, but the live-action movie starring Justice Smith and Ryan Reynolds. Back in 2019, when the first film was released, there was confirmation that a sequel was being planned as well. However, given the complications that the film industry saw when the pandemic hit, production of the movie seems to have gone on an endless hiatus.
9 A Sneak Peek At Gen X Is A Long Shot, But Could Happen
This Announcement Seems More Likely For Pokémon Day, But We Could Still See A Sneak Peek
Given that 2026 will be Pokémon's 30th anniversary, it seems likely that they'll wait until Pokémon Day 2026 to announce something as big as the Gen X Pokémon game, but that doesn't mean we couldn't get a sneak peek at it. Although we've only gotten full trailers for Pokémon Legends: Z-A over the last several months, it was initially announced back in 2024 through a very vague teaser trailer.
If there is a chance we get a sneak peek at Gen X, it would likely be something similar to that vague Z-A teaser and nothing more. I don't expect to see a title or any details about the next mainline game until at least 2026. Otherwise, Legends: Z-A would be grossly overshadowed by the anticipation before it's even been released.
8 It's About Time For Gen V Remakes
With 4 Years Since BDSP, It's Time For Black & White Remakes
A Gen V remake is seemingly inevitable; it's just a matter of when the best time to release it will be. However, with Legends: Z-A launching this October and Gen X likely coming in late 2026 at the earliest, early-mid 2026 seems like the perfect gap to release the Black & White remakes. After all, Legends: Arceus and BDSP only had a couple of months between their releases.
7 A Legends: Z-A Special Edition Switch 2 Would Break The Internet
Pokémon Could Be One Of The First Special Edition Switch 2s
Although the Nintendo Switch 2 has only been out for a little over a month, Legends Z-A is still a few months away, which means there is plenty of time to release a special edition Switch 2 themed around it. However, if this is announced, I wouldn't expect it to be anything elaborate with a custom dock like the Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Special Edition Switch, but it could be something closer to the Mario Odyssey or Splatoon Special Editions.
Rather than having full-fledged designs, these special editions only featured uniquely colored Joy-Cons themed around the game. Although the Nintendo Switch 2 doesn't have fully colored Joy-Cons as part of its base model like the Nintendo Switch did, that doesn't mean they couldn't decide to adopt that design choice for a simple special edition. Considering Charizard is such a focus point for Megas, maybe they could even theme the Joy-Cons around his evolutions, one for Mega Charizard X and one for Mega Charizard Y.
6 We Still Need A Specified Release Date For Pokémon Concierge Season 2
Season 2 Premieres In September, Exclusively On Netflix
During the last Pokémon presentation, season 2 of the adorable stop-motion series Pokémon Concierge was announced. While no explicit release date was mentioned, it was confirmed that the second season would be released sometime in September 2025. In addition to that announcement, the show shared a brief teaser of the upcoming season, but it didn't reveal much.
While I don't expect a lengthy trailer for the second season, given how short the show itself is, I do think we might get another brief teaser and a specified release date for Pokémon Concierge Season 2 during the July Pokémon Presents, especially since this will likely be the last one until October, when Legends Z-A is released.
5 A New Major Pokémon TCG Set Seems Likely
It's Time For The Next Pokémon 151-Like Set
When Pokémon TCG's Pokémon 151 set was released, there was pure chaos among collectors everywhere as everyone wanted to get their hands on this premium set. Even now, TPCi is still working to catch up with restocks following the high demand. Following that, however, Pokémon announced yet another Pokémon 151-like set, Black Bolt & White Flare, that includes alternate full arts of all Gen V Pokémon.
However, now that the release of Black Bolt & White Flare is kicking off, now is as great a time as ever to announce the next major set that will include alternate full arts of an entire generation of Pokémon. Although there's no guarantee Pokémon has plans to do this at all, it seems highly likely, especially given how in-demand these sets have been among collectors, even months later.
4 Retro Pokémon On Nintendo Switch Online Is Way Overdue
Now Is As Good A Time As Ever To Release The Original Games
If there's anything Pokémon players have been asking for at every Pokémon Presents since the Nintendo Switch retro consoles were first announced, it's to have access to the original games. Even though several Pokémon spin-off games have made their appearance on NSO's Classic Consoles, with more coming soon, Pokémon seems to have avoided the mainline games entirely despite how heavily they've been requested.
Although there's a chance that this could be something that Pokémon holds onto until 2026 for the anniversary as well, perhaps the Switch 2's recent release is enough reason to finally give us something. It's unlikely all the classic games will drop all at once, if they ever do at all, so even just one gen would be a sign of good faith and enough to satiate players for now, since we would at least then have confirmation that the rest are coming at some point.
3 It's Time For A New Pokémon TCG Pocket Expansion Announcement
An Expansion Themed Around Megas Could Be On The Way
Now that the second Booster Pack following the Celestial Guardians expansion has been released, the next expansion is bound to be announced sooner or later. While players had originally been expecting a Gen V expansion following the Space-Time Smackdown set, Celestial Guardians, which was focused around Gen VII, was released instead.
That being said, I do think we'll be backtracking to Gen VI as we approach Pokémon Legends: Z-A's October release date. It seems only fitting that an expansion themed around Megas would help build hype for Z-A, and thus seems like the most natural next choice. Whether it's themed around Gen VI or not, I'm sure we'll be seeing a sneak peek of what's next for Pokémon TCGP regardless.
2 A Full Look At Pokémon Champions Is Expected
An In-Depth Look At Pokémon Champions Seems Likely, & Maybe Even A Release Date
Aside from Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Pokémon Champions is another game that has Pokémon players hungry for more information. During a brief look at the upcoming tournament-style game, players were able to catch a glimpse of the battle-focused gameplay, but extensive details about how exactly the game would work were left up to question.
1 Mega Reveals For Pokémon Legends: Z-A Would Build Hype
There's Only So Much Left To Show About Pokémon's Next Game
With only a few months left before Pokémon Legends: Z-A's release, we've seen quite a bit of what to expect in terms of gameplay, battle mechanics, and the overall setting. However, what remains to be seen is some of the new Mega evolutions that are being added to the game. Although leaks have been rampant since the game's announcement, Pokémon has not officially confirmed or denied anything.
If there's anything left that could be shared at this point to help continue building hype for Legends: Z-A, it would be any of the Megas. I don't anticipate every new Mega evolution in Pokémon Legends: Z-A to be revealed ahead of its release, nor do I want that, but it would be nice to see even one or two just to help raise the anticipation in the weeks leading up to this upcoming Pokémon game.
